THE PATH IS MADE BY WALKING...
A journey consists of the paths explored and of tripping, falling, and getting up again. A journey is learning from places you come to and from those who walk with you, and sharing with them what you have and what you know. A true journey never ends because it is a spiritual way of understanding life.
Ours started in 1986 and we have grown and learnt along the way, but more importantly we retain that passion and the will to continue to advance towards the future.
A small incubator for rearing ducks was installed in the village of Aranaz in Navarra. The first farm was created. Mutikonborda became a reality.
What we know today as Martiko Preserves was created. Mutikonborda grew with an abattoir and fattening rooms.
THE FIRST MAJOR CHANGE
With the invaluable help of our friend Kiki Labarthe, the brand changed all the machinery and began to manufacture top quality products safely.
The best contemporary Basque chefs embarked on a project with us with demonstrations and product sampling.
We moved to the former Licor Izarra factory, 1,200m2 where products for the Food Service were produced and retail activities also began.
We included the smoked fish division. Owing to the demand from our own clients we branched out to include this division.
A NEW LEAP
Up to this point our products were marketed by an external company. In 1996 we decided to create our own sales department. As a consequence of the increase in sales, we again had to change installations as the previous ones were too small.
XANTELMAR IS BORN
Owing to the strong growth in the duck and salmon divisions, the decision was taken to separate the two activities and create two separate production centres.
WE ARRIVE IN LERÍN
The search for an optimum enclave so as to expand the abattoir installations led us to the town of Lerín in Navarra, where an abattoir with the latest technology was built.
A severe blow for all the Martiko family. Peio Martikorena, our founder, head, and powerhouse, left us.
FARMS OF OUR OWN
A fundamental change in our business model. In Navarra we set up our own farms , so as to ensure production and the control of the processes. We were already pioneers in the concept of total traceability, being the first company to include farms in its productive model.
We obtained the IFS certificate for all our productive plants and at the same time created our own R+D department.
